Part of our Supplier Spotlight series — real factory visits, real photos, no stock images.

HDP Precision Mechanical Engineering main gate, Vietnam

If you're paying 25% Section 301 tariffs on CNC-machined parts or sheet metal brackets sourced from China, this post is for you.

This is our fourth Supplier Spotlight — a series where we pull back the curtain on the actual audited factories inside Dewin's Vietnam network. Real photos from real visits. No stock images. No anonymous "network" factories. This month: HDP Precision Mechanical Engineering Company Limited — a CNC machining and sheet metal bending facility in Vietnam, fully audited under our 50-point Dolphin framework.

Previous spotlights: Bueno Technology (CNC turning), Altop Precision Die Casting, and NAPEC (CNC machining + CMM).

Why Vietnam for CNC Machining and Sheet Metal?

US manufacturers currently pay 25% Section 301 tariffs on almost every CNC-machined metal part and sheet metal fabrication sourced from China. Add import freight and the math is brutal — a $20 machined housing from China costs you $25+ landed. The same part from Vietnam? No Section 301. Vietnam is subject only to standard MFN rates (typically 0–5% on most industrial metal components).

Vietnam's machining industry has matured. The factories we audit are running Fanuc-controlled CNC machining centers, precision lathes, and press brakes — not manual shops with outdated tooling. HDP is a good example of what serious Vietnam manufacturing looks like today.

Inside the Factory

Facility Entrance

HDP Precision Mechanical Engineering gate

A formally registered, clearly identified facility. The main gate, signage, and compound perimeter all signal a real, professionally operated manufacturing business — not a broker warehouse or informal sub-assembler. For procurement teams doing supplier qualification on Vietnam factories, this first impression matters. Our Dolphin audit documents it as a verifiable checkpoint.

Production Workshop

HDP main production workshop

The main production workshop is organized, clean, and clearly laid out. Machine areas are delineated, tool storage is visible and organized, and work surfaces are uncluttered. This isn't just aesthetics — organized production floors correlate directly with process consistency and lower defect rates. Our Dolphin Infrastructure pillar verifies this systematically.

CNC Milling — Your China Cost Savings Start Here

CNC vertical milling machine, HDP Vietnam

CNC vertical milling is HDP's core production capability. This is exactly the process category where US buyers are currently absorbing the highest tariff burden — Section 301 covers virtually all machined metal parts (HS 8466, 8457, 8458, 8462, and dozens more). Moving this work to Vietnam eliminates that tariff line entirely.

Typical parts for this machine: aluminum and steel housings, mounting flanges, tooling plates, brackets with machined features, and complex prismatic components. Tolerances to ±0.01mm on critical dimensions.

CNC Turning

CNC lathe machine, HDP Vietnam

HDP runs both CNC and conventional lathes. CNC turning handles shafts, bushings, pins, coupling components, and threaded cylindrical parts — another high-tariff category under Section 301. The conventional lathe capability adds flexibility for prototype work and low-volume custom orders without premium setup costs.

Sheet Metal Bending

Sheet metal bending machine, HDP Vietnam

The press brake bending capability at HDP is a meaningful differentiator — it means parts that require both machined features and formed sheet metal geometry can be completed under one roof. For US buyers currently sourcing bent brackets, chassis panels, and formed enclosures from Chinese sheet metal shops, this is another category carrying 25% Section 301 exposure.

Moving formed sheet metal fabrication to Vietnam removes that tariff. HDP's in-house bending means you're not managing two separate Vietnam vendors for machining and forming — everything comes from one audited source.

2D Video Measuring Machine — Non-Contact Inspection

2D video measuring machine, HDP Vietnam

This is the quality system highlight of our HDP audit. A 2D Video Measuring Machine (VMM) uses precision optics and camera imaging to measure part geometry — feature positions, diameters, radii, angles — without physical contact. For US buyers requiring FAI (First Article Inspection) reports or PPAP-level dimensional documentation, a factory with a VMM can generate that paperwork accurately and efficiently, without sending parts to an external metrology lab.

In our experience, the factories that invest in in-house measurement equipment — CMMs, VMMs, optical projectors — are the factories that care about being able to prove their quality, not just claim it. HDP is in that category.

Manual Inspection Station

Caliper inspection tools, HDP Vietnam

Beyond the VMM, HDP maintains calibrated digital calipers, micrometers, and gauges at operator stations throughout the workshop. In-process dimensional checks — done at the machine, before the part moves to the next operation — are the first line of defense against out-of-tolerance parts reaching shipping. Calibrated tools, visible calibration tags, and organized storage confirm this is a managed QC environment.

Finished Parts

Finished precision parts from HDP Mechanical Engineering

Finished parts from HDP show consistent machining quality — clean edges, controlled surface finish, no visible burring or handling damage. Our Dolphin audit includes a finished-goods review, because the final part quality is the only metric that ultimately matters to your customers.

The Tariff Math: What You Actually Save

Part Example China Price China + 25% Tariff Vietnam (Dewin) You Save
Aluminum housing (6061, 3-axis CNC, 500 pcs) $18–24/pc $22.50–30/pc $16–22/pc 28–38%
Steel shaft (1045 steel, turning, 1,000 pcs) $6–9/pc $7.50–11.25/pc $5.50–8/pc 27–36%
Sheet metal bracket (1.5mm steel, bent, 1,000 pcs) $3.50–5/pc $4.40–6.25/pc $3–4.50/pc 26–34%

Pricing is indicative based on comparable part benchmarks. Request an exact quote for your geometry and volume.

What Makes HDP the Right Call for US Buyers

  • Multi-process under one roof — CNC milling + turning + bending in one audited facility. No vendor coordination overhead between separate machining and fabrication shops.
  • In-house VMM for documentation — FAI reports and dimensional inspection data generated at the factory, not outsourced to a third-party lab. Faster first article approval for US buyers.
  • Zero Section 301 tariff — Vietnam is not subject to Section 301. Every dollar of Chinese tariff you're paying today is a savings opportunity when you move to Vietnam.
  • Dolphin audit verified — You're not trusting a profile on a sourcing platform. You're seeing the actual factory photos, audit pillars, and quality system evidence from our team's visit.
